Abstract

Abstract: In recent years, there has been intense experimental and theoretical activity aimed at understanding topological properties of matter. Much of the effort has focused on the electronic band structure of solid state systems. In this talk, I will provide an overview of recent developments in this field, with a particular emphasis on topological features of materials beyond the electronic band structure. Notable examples include fractionalization of electron quantum numbers and topological magnon bands. I will conclude with an outlook to outstanding problems and opportunities in the area of topological properties of matter.
