Abstract

Binary neutron star mergers produce three signals: a short gamma ray burst and its multiwavelength aftermath a gravitational signal and a thermal source due to the radioactive decay of many unstable isotopes of heavy atoms newly synthesized via r process mechanism These signals have now been all detected and the reconstruction of heavy elements cosmic enrichment has started I will review the state of the art of observations and the outstanding theoretical problems Refreshments are served at 15:15
