On emergence of symmetry in quantum field theories

We will discuss the question of classification of conformal field theories in four dimensions The classification will lead us to conclude that majority of theories one can think about have bizarre properties which will be inconsistent with them having a semi classical weakly coupled description exhibiting all the required symmetries We will then discuss how such descriptions can be constructed by giving up manifest symmetry and having it only as an emergent phenomenon as the theory flows to low energy
