Abstract

According to General Relativity, black holes are characterized solely by their mass and angular momentum, a prediction that still lacks conclusive empirical confirmation. Alternative compact-object models may possess internal structure that can exchange energy with the orbital motion during a binary inspiral through tidal interactions. In this talk, I will discuss resonant tidal interactions, their effective field theory description, their relation to tidal Love numbers, and their potential observability with LISA.
