Abstract

The Bayesian reconstruction of the large scale structure (LSS), i.e. the matter density and 3D velocity fields, from surveys of galaxy distances is presented. Such surveys are notoriously ‘ugly’ - they are subject to inhomogeneous and anisotropic sampling, incomplete and (‘Malmquist’) biased. Besides the obligatory introduction the talk will focus on the basics of the Bayesian reconstruction and on the outcome of the application of the Bayesian tools to the Cosmicflows-4 data.
