Abstract

In systems of relativistic particles, an electric current, parallel to
the magnetic field, can flow. This is an example of a "macroscopic
quantum phenomenon" known as "chiral magnetic effect". Its importance
can be compared to superconductivity - another type of non-dissipative
transport.
In this talk I will provide intuitive explanation of chiral magnetic
effect and review its roles in systems ranging from the early Universe
and particle physics to Dirac/Weyl semi-metals
