Abstract
Neurons grown in culture develop into a simplified circuit that is computationally limited in comparison to the brain. The advantage is that it can be understood almost completely using physically relevant concepts. We describe the Kuramoto-like synchronization of individual oscillator neurons within a quorum percolation regime. We then show how the network retains several of its characteristics in the face of severe challenges to the ratio of the inhibitory and excitatory neurons within the network. Conclusions are presented for how control is maintained in the system.
