Abstract

With the completion of the Run II data taking at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, the European Particle Physics community is busy reviewing and updating its scientific goals for the near-, medium- and long-term future. The process was officially launched by the CERN Council in fall 2018 and is expected to be completed by May 2020. The strategy update is based on a bottom-up approach whereby the community is asked for proposals which are then debated during a dedicated Open Symposium. The latter recently took place in Granada and its scientific conclusions will constitute an important input for the European Strategy Group which is mandated by the CERN Council to draft the Strategy Update document. I will report on the various stages of the strategy update process and in particular on the scientific trends emerging from the recent debates.
