Abstract

Hawking used quantum field theory in Schwarzschild geometry to show that black holes emit radiation: Hawking radiation He derived a formula for the radiation occupation numbers Using his formula one gets small occupation numbers This implies that the state of this radiation is non classical in the sense that classical fields would be a bad approximate description for this radiation I shall explain this non classicality in detail and explain that this non classicality applies also to the interior of the black hole The main result I wish to present is that semiclassical geometry is not a good description of the black hole interior
