Abstract

Electronic and photonic systems of reduced dimensionality exhibit confined states with peculiar spectral density of states which significantly modifies and can be used to tailor their physical properties transport magnetic optical Such systems can be realized with good fidelity in semiconductor heterostructures thanks to advances in epitaxial growth and nanotechnology made over the past few decades Here we describe such systems of quantum and photonic wires 1D and dots 0D based on patterned epitaxial growth and photonic crystal structures Effects of confinement and reduced dimensionality observed include quantized electrical conductance emission of single photons Purcell modification of light matter interaction and photonic Anderson like localization Potential applications in integrated quantum photonic circuits for manipulation of quantum light will be mentioned 1 A Surrente et al Nano Research 2016 2 C Jarlov et al Phys Rev Lett 2016 Refreshments are served at 14:45
