Abstract

Rabi oscillations are a coherent phenomenon of a two level system separated by 0 and a near resonance coupling field Rabi oscillations are typically characterized by the oscillations frequency and amplitude that are dependent on the detuning from the resonance frequency and the intensity of the coupling field In this work we present experimental results of Rabi oscillations between Zeeman sub levels of a single hyperfine ground state of 87Rb atoms contained in a vapour cell with a buffer gas We show experimentally that in such a system the Rabi oscillations frequency is independent of the detuning We compare our experimental results with previous Rabi oscillations experimental results and discuss several mechanisms that can cause such a phenomenon
