Abstract:
The trapped-ion platform is one of the most promising approaches to realize quantum technologies. It is unique in having demonstrated capabilities ranging from metrology to quantum communication, via quantum simulations to quantum computing. In this presentation I will provide an introduction into the ion-trap platform, how we managed to move an entire experiment into two 19'' rack units, and explain some of the recent experiments on how to push the performance beyond the capabilities of classical computers.
