Abstract

Quasars are thought to be powered by gas accretion onto super massive black holes While the notion of geometrically thin accretion disks is often employed to qualitatively explain the properties of quasars there is little observational proof of it In fact there is growing evidence that accretion may be a far richer phenomenon This talk will review recent progress in the field and present new constraints on the size of the optically emitting regions in low lum
