General Information:
Course Objectives
The goal of this course is to provide a
modern in-depth introduction to Computational Physics.
The course covers Numerical Methods, Case Studies and Computational
Tools with an emphasize on Parallel Computing.
The course contains several "mini-courses" about computational tools where demos and/or hands-on practice will take place.
Syllabus
- Numerical methods in
Physics
Linear Algebra, Numerical
Integration, Monte Carlo methods, ODEs, PDEs
Radioactive
Decay, Kinematics, Heat Equation, Random
Walk, Metropolis Algorithm, Wave
Equation
- Tools
and Advanced topics
Programming in Python, Parallel
(MPI, OpenMP) and Grid Computing (Condor), Visualization
Audience
Physics students, 3rd
year of their BSc. and MSc.
Lectures
The course duration is one semester.
3 hours per week
Time: Thursday, 5pm-8pm.
