Geometric phases and dissipation: applications in pumping, spin dynamics and quantum computing

Alexander Shnirman, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and Institut fur Theorie der Kondensierten Materie

I will discuss the concepts of Abelian and non-Abelian geometric phases in dissipative quantum systems. In particular I will consider the geometric charge pumping in superconducting Josephson systems as well as the collective dynamics of spins in quantum dots and elaborate the role of the Berry\'s phase in these processes.
